The multisensory environmental evaluations of sound and odour in urban public open spaces

Few studies have focused on the multisensory perception of audio–olfactory interaction with purpose improving use urban spaces. This study conducted environmental evaluations in three open spaces China aim verifying existence environments and providing different perspectives for improvement quality. A sensewalk approach was adopted study, main research contents were: odour’s effects sound source environment evaluations, sound’s odour evaluations. The results indicated that food improved acoustic comfort congruency reduced subjective loudness. Pollution worsened assessment traffic lowered Sound decreased intensity exacerbated its evaluation. Additionally, enhanced pedestrian streets, while pollution it. had a weak impact masking effect between showed presence latter loudness increased diminished odour. Furthermore, influence greater than These findings implications planning design livable comfortable through perspective sensory interaction.
